To encourage people to get active in the workplace, Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, has announced the creation of a financial support program to promote physical activity in companies (Programme d'aide financière aux entreprises en matière d'activités physiques–PAFEMAP). The goal of the program is to increase the number of initiatives developed by small and medium-sized enterprises. Companies with five to 499 employees, including non-profit organizations and cooperatives whose projects are selected, can receive financial assistance of up to $40,000. This support can be used, for example, to provide sports facilities at the workplace, purchase materials and equipment, or organize and promote physical and outdoor activities.

The measure reflects the most recent opinion of the Kino-Québec Scientific Committee: L'activité physique au travail: des bienfaits pour tous. The document is a helpful reference tool and provides the latest data on regular physical activity in the workplace. It is also intended to be used as a guide to raise awareness and provide tools for companies wishing to implement a structured approach that is adapted to their reality and meets the needs of their employees.
